The Montgomery TechLab (MTL) Defense Accelerator officially launched its third cohort with an engaging Kickoff & Networking Reception, bringing together founders, defense leaders, corporate partners, mentors, investors, and community stakeholders to celebrate the beginning of another transformative accelerator program. Hosted at Troy University Montgomery, the event marked an exciting new chapter for Montgomery's growing defense innovation ecosystem. Attendees had the opportunity to meet this year's cohort of innovative companies developing technologies in areas including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, robotics, critical infrastructure, secure communications, and advanced software applications. The evening highlighted Montgomery's continued emergence as a destination for dual-use technology companies serving both commercial and Department of Defense markets.

MTL Defense Accelerator Cohort 3 Launch – Short Version
The meeting focused on a presentation by Brian House about patterns and lessons learned for founders entering the defense acquisition ecosystem. Brian outlined four key lessons founders typically discover: the DoD consists of hundreds of separate customers, language and terminology matter significantly, technology is rarely the deciding factor, and defense timelines are much longer than commercial markets.

The event focused on building relationships and recruiting for MTL’s January 2026 cohort, aligning regional talent with near‑term needs across the national‑security community.

On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Montgomery TechLab hosted the MTL Defense Accelerator Demo Day at the AUiX space inside the historic KRESS Building—bringing together innovators, industry leaders, investors, and defense stakeholders for a high-energy evening of pitches, tech demos, and collaboration. After 8 weeks of intense development, mentorship, and engagement with mission partners, our inaugural cohort of dual-use startups took the stage to share solutions built for national security impact and commercial scale.
MTL Defense Accelerator Cohort One Short Recap
The Defense Accelerator is a partnership between the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce and Treble One that kicked off on June 5, 2025. The 8-week accelerator program is for early-stage technology companies. Eligible companies can be from across the nation, some that may spin out of Alabama-based colleges and universities, or those breaking into the defense sector with innovative products that can be grown and scaled in the commercial and defense markets.
