On Tuesday, January 13, founders, defense and government stakeholders, mentors, partners, and ecosystem leaders gathered at SBOSS in the KRESS Building to officially launch the 2026 Defense Accelerator cohort. The kickoff marked the beginning of an eight-week program designed to support companies developing technologies with strong defense and dual-use applications.

The Montgomery TechLab (MTL) Defense Accelerator, in partnership with TrebleOne, hosted a GovTech Networking Social during Magic City Classic week, connecting government executives, small and emerging IT/GovTech businesses, and university founders. The event focused on building relationships and recruiting for MTL’s January 2026 cohort, aligning regional talent with near‑term needs across the national‑security community.

On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Montgomery TechLab hosted the MTL Defense Accelerator Demo Day at the AUiX space inside the historic KRESS Building—bringing together innovators, industry leaders, investors, and defense stakeholders for a high-energy evening of pitches, tech demos, and collaboration. After 8 weeks of intense development, mentorship, and engagement with mission partners, our inaugural cohort of dual-use startups took the stage to share solutions built for national security impact and commercial scale.

The 8-week accelerator program is for early-stage technology companies. Eligible companies can be from across the nation, some that may spin out of Alabama-based colleges and universities, or those breaking into the defense sector with innovative products that can be grown and scaled in the commercial and defense markets.

MTL Defense Accelerator Success Stories Webinar
STEM Fest was a huge success! It was a 3-hour free fun-filled 1/2-day Community-based celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) for up 1000 students. Students from the local I-85 community participated in over 50 different hands-on stations, performed experiments, watched demonstrations and met professionals from all different career backgrounds. Participants also explored science in new ways, experienced technology in different applications, engaged in engineering activities, and embraced the fun in Mathematics! Each station is manned by collegiate and professional volunteers from the community.
