Defense Accelerator

Building Dual-Use Applications

MTL Defense Accelerator

The Montgomery TechLab Defense Accelerator is a flagship initiative driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth in the Montgomery region. Launched to strengthen the connection between emerging technology companies and the defense ecosystem at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, the accelerator has quickly evolved into a high-impact platform for advancing dual-use innovation across Alabama. Through strategic partnerships, expert mentorship, and direct engagement with defense stakeholders, the program equips founders to scale technologies in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and application development—while positioning Montgomery as a growing hub for defense innovation, high-skill job creation, and long-term economic diversification.

Cohort Schedule

The accelerator launches with an immersive, in-person kickoff designed to orient founders to the defense innovation ecosystem and establish a strong strategic foundation. Cohort companies are onboarded into the program, introduced to Treble One’s defense-focused framework, and begin aligning their technologies with Department of Defense mission needs. The opening session concludes with a networking reception connecting founders with mentors, defense stakeholders, and ecosystem partners.

This virtual session focuses on early-stage strategy refinement and understanding federal small business pathways. Companies participate in weekly one-on-one working sessions with Treble One consultants while gaining insight from small business representatives on government engagement, certifications, and early contracting considerations. During this week, cohort companies will also have the opportunity to engage with the broader innovation ecosystem through participation in Sloss Tech.

No formal programming will take place during this period in observance of the holiday. Founders are encouraged to use this time to reflect on prior sessions and continue internal strategy development.

At the midpoint of the program, cohort companies reconvene in person to assess progress, validate strategic direction, and strengthen execution plans. This session reinforces defense-specific go-to-market strategies and prepares companies for final stakeholder engagement and Demo Day.

This session centers on technical validation and alignment with defense research and acquisition priorities. Founders engage with experts from AFRL and the acquisition community to better understand innovation pathways, transition opportunities, and procurement considerations.

This virtual session provides insight into real-world mission needs and policy considerations through panels featuring operational leaders and government relations experts. Companies refine positioning, stakeholder alignment, and long-term engagement strategies within the defense ecosystem.

Running concurrently with continued advisory engagement, this session emphasizes execution readiness, milestone alignment, and refinement of company priorities. Founders continue structured sessions with Treble One to strengthen alignment between their strategic direction and identified opportunities.

Cohort companies reconvene for final in-person programming ahead of Demo Day. This session includes pitch practice, feedback loops, and alignment on messaging, delivery, and stakeholder engagement strategy.

This session focuses on final refinements to company strategies, presentations, and stakeholder engagement approaches. During this phase, Treble One formally introduces the Level II Insights Playbook—a customized, company-specific strategic playbook that maps each founder’s technology to relevant Department of Defense priorities, funding pathways, and potential partners across the defense ecosystem.

In the final week leading up to Demo Day, companies focus on execution readiness, presentation confidence, and final alignment across all deliverables. During this session, Treble One delivers each company’s completed Level II Insights Playbook, providing a comprehensive, actionable roadmap that includes tailored market insights, aligned use cases, target offices, and engagement pathways. This delivery is paired with intensive pitch practice and final preparation for stakeholder engagement.

The accelerator concludes with Demo Day, where cohort companies present their technologies, validated use cases, and growth strategies to a curated audience of investors, prime contractors, OEMs, and Department of Defense stakeholders—supporting a strong transition from planning to execution.
