On Wednesday, February 25, Montgomery TechLab hosted the Defense Accelerator Demo Day at the Eagle Institute in the KRESS Building—celebrating the culmination of Cohort #2 of the Montgomery TechLab Defense Accelerator.

The event brought together founders, defense stakeholders, investors, university partners, and ecosystem leaders for an evening of live company pitches, strategic networking, and insight into technologies shaping the future of national security and commercial markets.

About the Montgomery TechLab Defense Accelerator

Delivered in partnership with Treble One, the Montgomery TechLab Defense Accelerator served as a high-impact program positioning Montgomery as a growing hub for defense and dual-use technology innovation.

The accelerator supported advanced startups developing solutions aligned with modern defense and national security priorities, including:

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Advanced Materials

  • Energy & Power Systems

  • Cybersecurity

  • Autonomous Platforms

  • Secure Federal Technologies

By intentionally connecting founders with defense stakeholders, federal customers, primes, investors, and academic partners, the program strengthened the defense industrial base while creating new pathways for job creation, capital investment, and long-term economic growth in Montgomery and across Alabama.

Strengthening Montgomery’s Economy Through Defense Startups

For Montgomery, the Defense Accelerator functioned as a strategic engine for economic diversification—attracting and retaining technology companies capable of serving both government and commercial markets.

Cohort companies operated at mid-to-late Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), with deployed systems, active pilots, and validated performance in real-world environments. Their technologies addressed mission-critical needs such as predictive decision-making, resilient energy generation, cyber resilience, autonomous sensing, and secure command-and-control.

  • Autonomous Federal — Delivered secure, compliant technology solutions modernizing federal operations through data-driven systems and workflow automation.

  • FibrX — Advanced fiber-based materials delivering strength, durability, and performance for defense, infrastructure, and industrial use.

  • MoonBase AI — Provided AI-powered decision-support tools turning complex data into actionable insights for planning and operational efficiency.

  • Petra Power — Developed resilient energy and power systems enabling mission continuity in austere and high-demand environments.

  • Xdown — Delivered cybersecurity and risk-mitigation technologies protecting critical systems against evolving digital threats.

Statewide Impact Through Innovate Alabama Investment

The Montgomery TechLab Defense Accelerator demonstrated how Innovate Alabama investments—particularly through tax credit and innovation support programs—generated statewide economic returns. By catalyzing private capital, federal funding, and university collaboration, the accelerator multiplied the impact of state dollars while advancing Alabama’s competitiveness in defense, aerospace, energy, and advanced technology markets.
